Frequently asked questions

Tina, what made you start mindfulness ?

I started meditation is 2008, it wasn't trending then!  I needed help during a junction of enormous change in my life. Meditation saved me!
I had been meditating for a number of years and it was working for me at the start and end of my day.  However, coping during my day wasn't always great, as stresses would just trigger me.
Mindfulness changed everything; as it teaches you how to handle the daily stresses, bringing calm into your thoughts and actions.

How can meditation help me ?

It is now clinically proven that meditation helps reduce stress.
Suffering from stress leads to all sorts of medical and mental health issues. Our minds and bodies are connected, when we are mentally stressed our bodies respond to that stress.  It shows in the tension of muscles and tightness in our chest or tummies. Then eventually we become run down.
If we can manage our stress, we can manage our health. I always say that meditation is like going to the gym but for your mind.  You need to commit and be prepared to learn how to carry out the daily routine.  However, once you know, you have the skills for life. To be able to change your life!

How do you actually meditate ?

In mindfulness we always starts with intention and observation
  • Firstly,  make the intention to take a few moments to just observe yourself breathing.
  • Bring your attention inwards and onto yourself.
  • Are you breathing quickly or slowly?
  • Is your breathing deep and shallow?
  • How does your body feel as you are breathing in and out ?
  • There is no right or wrong. Just observe without judgement.

We then move onto observation of our thoughts, emotions and actions.

Congratulations ! You just did some mindfulness!

Do I have to sit on a cushion with my legs crossed? I feel silly !

No, you don't.  You can sit or lay in anyway you'd like. You can even walk, eat and move mindfully!
Mindfulness is more about a state of mind and less about what you wear and how you sit.  Even though concentration IS needed and mostly sitting upright to concentrate is best practice.  To be honest, I do a lot of my meditation laying down 😁.
